David Bernstein’s continuing passion for software design and construction has led him to train more than 10,000 professional software developers since 1990 at hundreds of companies around the world. Since 2006, David has been devoted to coaching and training developers at organizations transitioning to Agile. His consulting company, To Be Agile (https://tobeagile.com/), helps development teams improve their technical practices.
A long time ago, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, David was a special consultant to IBM, where he worked on the development of OS/2 and was a key programmer for IBM’s ImagePlus platform. As part of a special IBM technology-transfer task force, David helped create and deliver the most successful Object-Oriented training curriculum in IBM’s history. He trained software engineers across the globe—giving them the tools to write the next generation of applications and operating-system software—while earning one of the highest satisfaction ratings in the history of IBM corporate education.
David is the creator of a wholesale bank-accounting software program that became the de facto standard in foreign-exchange banks around the world, and he also designed econometric modeling software that’s been used to invest billions of dollars. In 1998, he founded The MicroSurfer Company, launching an innovative, Web-productivity browser add-on that generated rave reviews from the technology press.
David is also an award-winning video producer who’s made numerous short films, including a documentary called Connect: A New Ecological Paradigm about youth and the environment which was shown worldwide on MTV. He lives in the Seattle area with his wife, Staci, a professional filmmaker, and his poodle, Nicki.
